Masseter Slimming in Jacksonville is available at The Aesthetics Center!

The masseter is a very strong muscle that connects the jaw to the cheek.  It is the main muscle used to open and close the jaw. This muscle tends to thicken and enlarge in people who tend to excessively grind and clench their teeth.  This enlargement can transform the face to a squarer appearance or can cause asymmetry in the cheeks. Masseter reduction or jawline slimming can be achieved with injection of a neurotoxin (“tox” for short) right into the masseter muscle. These injections generally serve two purposes: cosmetic and therapeutic.

  1. Cosmetic Use: Many people opt for masseter injections to achieve a slimmer appearance in the lower face and jawline. By injecting a tox into the masseter muscle, it relaxes the muscle, leading to a reduction in its size over time. This can create a more balanced facial appearance and a softer jawline.
  2. Therapeutic Use: Tox injections in the masseter muscle can also be used to alleviate symptoms associated with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) and bruxism (teeth grinding). By reducing the activity of the masseter muscle, tox can help alleviate tension, pain, and clenching in the jaw area as well as headaches.

Tox works by blocking nerve signals to the masseter. It relaxes the muscle and limits its movement. The procedure typically involves a small injection of tox directly into the masseter muscle on each side of the face. The whole treatment takes less than 10 minutes, requires no anesthesia, is relatively painless and highly effective. There is no downtime although it is recommended to keep the face upright, avoid exercise, and avoid alcohol for a minimum of 4 hours. It is also recommended to avoid rubbing or applying pressure to the treated area.

Results may take 7-14 days to become noticeable as the muscle gradually relaxes. The effects of Botox injections in the masseter muscle are temporary, usually last around 3-4 months, after which the treatment can be repeated if desired.

As with any procedure, it is important to find a qualified and experienced medical physician.  This will reduce your risk of complications and achieve your desired results.
