Why Men Choose Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a popular and effective method for men to reduce unwanted hair. This non-invasive procedure uses concentrated light beams to target and destroy hair follicles, resulting in long-term hair reduction. Here’s an overview of laser hair removal for men:

  1. Convenience: Reduces the need for daily shaving or frequent waxing.
  2. Ingrown Hairs: Minimizes the occurrence of ingrown hairs and razor bumps.
  3. Aesthetics: Provides a cleaner, smoother look, which is often desired for certain body areas.
  4. Performance: Beneficial for athletes who seek reduced body hair for performance and hygiene reasons.

Common Treatment Areas for Men

  1. Back and Shoulders: One of the most popular areas for men seeking laser hair removal.
  2. Chest and Abdomen: Helps achieve a smooth, hair-free look.
  3. Neck: Reduces irritation and ingrown hairs from shaving.
  4. Face and Beard Line: For a well-defined beard line and reduced facial hair density.
  5. Arms and Legs: For men wanting less body hair or a cleaner look.
  6. Buttocks and Groin Area: For personal grooming preferences and hygiene.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

  • Mechanism: The laser emits light absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. This light converts to heat, damaging the hair follicle and inhibiting future hair growth.
  • Hair Growth Cycle: Hair grows in cycles, and the laser is most effective during the anagen (active growth) phase. Multiple sessions are required to target hair in different growth phases.

What To Expect

A thorough consultation with a qualified practitioner to discuss goals, skin type, hair type, and medical history.

Shave the treatment area a day or two before the session. Avoid sun exposure and tanning products.

During The Session

Protective eyewear is worn. The practitioner uses a handheld laser device to treat the area. Sessions typically last up to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Patients may feel a slight stinging or snapping sensation. Modern lasers often have cooling mechanisms to minimize discomfort.

Mild redness is common but usually subsides within a few hours.

It is generally recommended to avoid plucking, waxing, depilatories, and electrolysis for 4-6 weeks prior to a session.  The treatment area should be shaved a day in advance.  Skin should be free of any topical products the day of the procedure.

There is no anesthetic gel or cream required for our laser hair removal treatments.  As the laser passes over the treatment area, the hairs become warm but are immediately cooled with the In Motion technique. While skin might be slightly red immediately following the procedure, this should resolve within a few hours.  There is no downtime so clients can resume normal activities immediately following a treatment.  Sunscreen is encouraged to be applied on any sun exposed skin.

Laser hair removal is technically semi-permanent.  Some hair follicles may not be affected by the laser.  Some hair might regrow due to hormonal issues.  However, the vast majority of patients see a significant thinning of hair and decrease in hair growth.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect the treated area from sun exposure and use sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation.
  • Gentle Skincare: Avoid harsh skincare products for a few days post-treatment.
  • Follow-Up Sessions: Most men need 6-8 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, for optimal results. Maintenance sessions may be required.
